It amazes me the number of people that believe money is the determining factor of whether or not you are successful. Although I do believe money is an ingredient for success, I do not believe it is the only ingredient. There are several people that I worked with over the years that insist they are successful because of their money. I want to discuss a few of these people in today’s post and briefly give you my thoughts on success.
One gentleman I worked with had in excess of $5,000,000 (pretty significant amount of money from where I live). He obviously had a great career and earned a ton of money, but everyone knew he was rich. They knew he was rich because he would tell everyone he was rich. When he came into the office and someone didn’t know who he was and asked to see some identification, he would say, “Young lady, do you have any idea who I am? If you don’t do what I want, I will call the president.” In addition to his arrogance, he had been divorced three times, two children don’t speak to him, and he was about 80 pounds overweight. Although he had money, he wasn’t successful!
Another guy I worked with earned in excess of $350,000 a year and had earned this much every year for the past ten. I met with him and he was in his 50s and all flash. His suit was pimp, he drove a Lexus convertible in the summer and a Mercedes SUV in the winter, and he was about to purchase another house. However, he had no money! Literally every dollar he earned was spent. Here is a single guy in his 50s who never gave back to the community, never saved, and never cared about relationships. This is another example of not being successful.
Now that I have given a few examples what I believe are unsuccessful people, I want to touch on how I define success! I believe there are seven factors that determine success which include: Faith, relationships, money, health, accountability, personal development, and career. Additionally, I believe that success is something that we continuously try to achieve. It is not something that can just come to you, success is something that we must aspire for and work towards.
Personally, I am still trying to achieve success. Although I have defined success, I am not there yet! I have the typical struggles that everyone deals with on a daily basis. Some days I feel that I am getting closer and other days I feel like I have taken two steps back. There is definitely a balance that needs to be obtained and I think that is where I struggle the most! My goal is to always work towards each of these ingredients!
